#TeamArchie – Dublin City Marathon 2018

#ICanIWill #KeepMoving #KeepMarching #NeverEverGiveUp

This year once again #TeamArchie are taking part in Dublin City Marathon 2018. It is remarkable to think that a 12 year old little boy, living with a terminal muscle wasting disease, is about to embark on his 2nd full marathon!

None of this would be possible without the love and support of his head coach, Sinead Gannon and the other members of Team Archie!! The amount of work that goes into supporting Archie and ensuring he is ‘Marathon Ready’ is quite remarkable. This year, the team responsible for assisting Archie over the 26.2 miles are, Sinead, Adrian ‘Speedy’ Smith; Tonya Hand; Elaine Denby Allen and Basil Mannion. Running 26.2 miles is no mean feat and of course it would be far easier for these athletes, to run their own race. However, they are completely selfless and utterly wonderful. They give so much of themselves and Archie is so, so grateful to them all. They all understand what this means to Archie and they are very happy to promote inclusion in sport.

This year, Archie is very fortunate to have a new running machine! We are very grateful to Jim Aughney and The Dublin City Marathon Team for sponsoring the running buggy; it is FANTASTIC!!

The Team are supported by many other runners and walkers this year all of whom are attempting to raise awareness of this catastrophic disease and fundraise for The Trust. We are indebted to each and every one of them. They will be kitted out in orange, so if you are at the event and see any member of Team Archie, please do give them a cheer and wish them luck! It is so uplifting to hear the support as you make your way across the miles!

It is also important to mention that as well as those people taking part in the marathon itself, there is a back room team of volunteers as well. These people work quietly and efficiently to ensure that everyone is OK and well looked after, before, during and after the race. #TeamArchie would not be able to function without this loyal crew. We are so grateful to them all.

Finally, to our Marathon Sponsors, Gleeson’s Restaurant & Rooms in Roscommon. Thank You All Most Sincerely for everything you do (all year!!), to support, guide and love our family. We are privileged to call you our friends.

If you feel you could contribute to the fund-raising for the event, you can donate through this site by hitting the Donate button or if you are in Roscommon Town, you can leave a donation in Gleeson’s! Sincere thanks.
