Like most parents, our dreams have always been centred round our children:
1. That the boys will grow to be healthy adults.
2. That the boys will be happy.
3. That the boys will respect themselves.
4. That the boys will respect others.
5. If we are very lucky, they will choose a career that will enable them to contribute positively to society.
On the 9th of November 2012 our lives & dreams were changed beyond comprehension. The dreams we had for our boys were changed forever. A diagnosis of Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is devastating. It is a fatal, neuromuscular disease that affects 1 in every 3,500 boys and each year 20,000 children worldwide are born with DMD; 99% of these are boys. There are no words to describe how it feels to learn that one of your precious children has a terminal illness, which has no cure. Sadly for our family we have three children who are terminally ill. A diagnosis of DMD means that our children are unlikely to live beyond their late teens or early 20s.
